This very attractive part of Loddon boasts several impressive houses, including Loddon House which was at one time an assylum. During the second world war, its owner, who was the head of Norwich Union, allowed it to be used by the Home Guard and Cecil Nichols reminisces about those days. Just around the corner is the former Fox and Hound public house where the owners kept a donkey who used to drink beer and eat liquorice pipes in the bar along with the customers.
